Since the spread of COVID-19 from Wuhan, China in December 2019, Airborne Rescue and Relief Operations With Search (ARROWS) has provided emergency relief assistance. Please see the activity summary below.
On January 27, ARROWS dispatched a Chinese national staff from Saga, Japan to Shanghai, China, to conduct needs assessments with a local partner organization, the International Health Welfare Institute (IHWI). ARROWS then transported medical supplies from a stockpile stored at Saga Airport. Distribution items included 3,150 masks and 2,000 surgical gloves.
On January 30, a local partner organization and ARROWS delivered 1,680 masks and 1,900 medical gloves to Changhai Hospital in Shanghai.
On January 31, ARROWS dispatched one Japanese staff to China from Saga Airport. Working with IHWI, ARROWS transported 200kg of medical supplies from Saga to Shanghai and presented them to Children's Hospital of Fudan University. The distribution items included 500 protective suits, 1,000 medical caps, 4,000 medical gloves, 30 pairs of long boots, and 60 face covers.
On February 5, another Japanese staff was dispatched from Saga Airport to China with 1 ton of medical supplies. On February 6, those items were delivered to the Public Health Clinical Center in Shanghai. Distribution items included: protective suits, medical masks, long boots, gloves, bandages, blood collection kits, cottons, and sterile pipettes used to examine patients and test blood samples. Town Tara Hospital of Saga also donated 580 medical relief kits (protective suits, masks, eye masks, gloves, and foot covers).
