Originating from Wuhan, China, the new coronavirus has killed 217 people and infected 9,812 people as of January 31 (Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China). The number of coronavirus cases has surpassed that of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic in 2003. The new virus continues to spread worldwide.
On January 31, ARROWS transported 200kg of relief items including protective suits from Saga, Japan to Shanghai, China. After arriving in Shanghai, with help from a local organization, International Health Welfare Institute (IHWI), ARROWS delivered medical relief items (500 protective suits, 1,000 medical caps, 4,000 medical gloves, 30 pairs of long boots, and 60 face covers) to Children's Hospital of Fudan University.
A doctor there warmly greeted our staff saying, "We would like to sincerely thank you for your support. Those items will be managed with strict inventory control. Medical professionals working at the frontline will be saved by those protective items."
Global efforts are needed to stop the epidemic of pneumonia caused by the virus and to save as many lives as possible.
