On April 22, ARROWS leased and installed two trailer offices and medical equipment including air purifiers to Saga University Hospital to be used as a triage post. The hospital plays a key role in providing critical care in Saga.
As the spread of COVID-19 continues, medical facilities are pressed to prepare themselves with adequate equipment. Saga University Hospital determined that triage rooms are necessary to isolate infected patients from the general population and run tests. This measure is to prevent in-hospital infections.
A state of emergency is now extended to all areas of Japan and front line medical facilities are facing a critical shortage of medical supplies such as masks and protective suits. Hospitals should be prepared for a possible surge in confirmed cases and protect their patients and staff from infection. Triage posts outside hospital facilities are needed to prevent infection clusters at hospitals.
ARROWS has also leased and installed trailer offices and air tents at a hospital in Osaka on March 5 and April 7, and Hiroshima on March 13 to be utilized as triage posts.
"Saga University Hospital is the stronghold in Saga for emergency and acute care. We must take all precautions to avoid cluster infections in the hospital which would undermine our efforts to assist critically ill patients. I do think that the key is to prevent people with fever entering the hospital. But we cannot turn away patients with fever without any care. That's why we set up tents outside the hospital to consult and examine patients. The trailers installed by ARROWS will be utilized as consultation and waiting rooms."
